As most minerals are interlocked with host rock, this material
must be broken down to a level where the mineral can be separated
for recovery. This process is called comminution.
Crushing and grinding circuits use most of the energy in the
process flow-sheet of concentrating a mineral. Therefore, the
comminution process should only break the host material down
sufficiently to liberate the mineral. Any additional work done
is a waste of energy. |
